When coming up with a name for this project I wanted to incorporate two things, first was a reference to the community where it all began, and the other was the connection between the past and present in making new art with retro tools and techniques. From there it was obvious that Y2K aka The Millennium Bug was the theme to tap into, since it would maintain that link and represent a bridge between time periods.

Initially I tried some variations of the Y2K acronym (take for instance "Yeah2Kool") but then I remembered that the US Naval Observatory (who among other things serve as the official timekeepers of America) had a Y2K bug that caused their website to display the year as 19100. This seemed like the perfect choice, a glitch between the millenniums would be just the right vibe for the project.

Alongside the name I thought that having a mascot would be a fun idea, which easily led into The Millennium Bug (which has been personified many times over the years), this had the added benefit of providing an informative first attempt at rigging characters with POV-Ray.
